A tragic road accident early this morning near Mangnad village in Jambusar taluka has once again highlighted the growing menace of stray nilgai. Vijay Khumansingh Vavad (30), a resident of Mangnad, was riding his motorcycle when a nilgai suddenly ran onto the road and collided with his bike.
The impact caused Vijay to lose control, throwing him into an oncoming car. He sustained severe head and bodily injuries in the accident. Locals rushed him to the Jambusar government hospital via a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has plunged Mangnad village into mourning. The untimely death of a young man has devastated his family and sparked anger among villagers.
Residents allege that large-scale encroachment on grazing land has forced animals like nilgai onto roads in search of food and space. This has resulted in frequent accidents, endangering the lives of commuters.
Villagers have demanded immediate action from the authorities, including removal of illegal encroachments on grazing land, strict measures to prevent animals from entering highways, and installation of warning signs in accident-prone zones. They warn that failure to act will only lead to more tragic loss of life.
