Tributes paid to the renowned Gujarati poet, social reformer and pioneer of Gujarati language and literature
Jambusar:
J.M. Shah Arts and Commerce College in Jambusar celebrated the birth anniversary of Veer Narmad, one of the leading figures of Gujarati literature, a prominent social reformer and a passionate advocate of the Gujarati language.
The programme highlighted Veer Narmad’s life, literary contributions, progressive ideas and efforts towards social reform. His significant contribution to the development of Gujarati language and literature was also remembered on the occasion.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of the college’s In-Charge Principal, Dr. K. M. Prajapati. It commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the principal and the invited guests.
Veer Narmad’s Contribution to Gujarati Literature Highlighted
The chief guest, Dr. Mahendra R. Patel, spoke about various aspects of Veer Narmad’s personality and work as a social reformer, lexicographer and pioneer of Gujarati prose. He elaborated on Narmad’s contribution to Gujarati language and literature, as well as his progressive thoughts and efforts towards social transformation.
At the beginning of the programme, Gujarati Department Head Prof. D. R. Patel presented the introductory remarks. Prof. Sabnam Diwan conducted the programme.
Students and guests were also informed about Veer Narmad’s literary journey, social ideas and his lasting influence on Gujarati culture.
Essay Competition Organised
As part of the birth anniversary celebrations, an essay competition was organised for students. Students participated enthusiastically and presented their understanding of Veer Narmad’s life, literary work and progressive ideas through their essays.
The winners were:
- First: Gana Fatima – M.A. Semester 1
- Second: Padana Sehbaz – M.A. Semester 1
- Third: Rahulji Pratiksha – S.Y.B.A.
- Fourth: Sandhya – T.Y.B.Com.
The winning students were congratulated by In-Charge Principal Dr. K. M. Prajapati, who also wished them success in their academic and literary pursuits.
Programme Concludes with Vote of Thanks
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by visiting faculty member Prof. Rameshbhai Parmar.
The event was attended by college faculty members and students and successfully served as an occasion to introduce the younger generation to Veer Narmad’s literary legacy, progressive thinking and contribution to Gujarati society and language.
