Temples Gear Up with Renovation, Cleanliness and Lighting Preparations Ahead of Shravan
Jambusar: With the holy month of Shravan just around the corner, a devotional atmosphere is gradually taking over Jambusar and surrounding areas. Preparations have begun at several Shiva temples, with temple premises undergoing painting, cleaning, decoration and lighting work ahead of the month-long celebrations.
Shravan is scheduled to begin on August 13, 2026, and devotees across the region are eagerly preparing for the auspicious month dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple Set for Shravan Festivities
Located at Kavi-Kamboi, around 30 kilometres from Jambusar near the Arabian Sea, the historic Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple is expected to remain one of the major centres of devotion during Shravan.
Often described as the “Somnath of South Gujarat”, the temple is also associated with the Mahisagar Sangam Tirth. One of the temple’s most unique features is the natural phenomenon linked to the sea tides. During high tide, seawater reaches the temple and the Shiva Lingam becomes submerged. As the tide recedes, the Shivling becomes visible again.
The natural cycle of the sea meeting the sacred shrine attracts devotees and visitors and creates a unique blend of faith and nature.
Special Worship by Priests from Kashi
During Shravan, special rituals and Shiva worship will be conducted at Stambheshwar Mahadev by priests from Kashi. Daily homa and havan will also be organised at the temple’s Yagnashala, with devotees and yajmans from different parts of the country and abroad expected to participate.
Mahant Vidyanandji Maharaj said that a Shravan fair has been organised at the temple for nearly 35 years. Thousands of devotees visit Stambheshwar Mahadev during the holy month, and arrangements are being made to ensure that pilgrims can have a smooth and comfortable darshan.
Facilities including food and fasting meals are also arranged for devotees during the festival period.
Jambusar Youth Groups to Extend Voluntary Services
During Shravan, members of the Jambusar Yuvak Mandal will also participate in various voluntary service activities. Every morning, volunteers are expected to travel from Tankari Bhagol to Stambheshwar Mahadev to assist devotees and contribute to the arrangements at the temple.
Religious Tourism to Boost Local Livelihoods
The Shravan season also brings increased economic activity to the area. Temporary stalls and shops selling religious items, food and other necessities are set up around the temple, providing an opportunity for local traders and small vendors to earn additional income.
Thus, the month of Shravan is not only a period of religious devotion but also contributes to local trade and employment in the surrounding region.
Police and Administration Prepare for Devotee Rush
With a large number of devotees expected to visit the temples during Shravan, the police administration is also expected to strengthen security and traffic arrangements. Police points will be deployed at important locations to maintain law and order and facilitate smooth movement of visitors.
Temple authorities, volunteers and local organisations are also working on arrangements to make the pilgrimage experience safer and more convenient for devotees.
With preparations already underway, Jambusar and its surrounding areas are gradually turning into a hub of Shiva devotion. As Shravan begins, the chants of “Har Har Mahadev” are expected to resonate across the region, bringing together faith, tradition, service and community spirit.
