North India continues to reel under severe cold wave conditions accompanied by dense fog. According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is little chance of relief from the cold till December 29, 30, and 31. States like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR are expected to witness persistent cold and low visibility due to fog.

IMD has issued a Cold Day warning for eastern Uttar Pradesh, while Severe Cold Day alerts have been announced for Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Uttarakhand. Dense fog is likely to continue across large parts of northern India.

Delhi Weather Update

In Delhi, after brief sunny spells, moisture levels have risen again due to cold westerly winds from the mountains. The minimum temperature has dropped to 6.5°C, and further dip is expected. Air Quality Index (AQI) has improved slightly and stands at 230, still in the ‘poor’ category.

Fog Alert in Uttar Pradesh

IMD has issued an Orange Alert for dense fog in several districts including Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Gorakhpur, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, and Sitapur. Meerut recorded the coldest night with the minimum temperature touching 4.6°C.

Bihar Remains Under Cold Grip

Bihar continues to face severe cold and dense fog conditions. IMD attributes this to continuous snowfall in the Himalayan region and active western disturbances. The average minimum temperature in Bihar over the last 24 hours stood at 9.4°C, and fog is expected to persist till the end of the year.
