Amod | Bharuch:
Concerns have been raised in Amod after the municipal term concluded without convening a mandatory general body meeting, sparking debate over adherence to democratic norms and municipal regulations.
According to available information, the BJP-led Amod Municipality reportedly completed its tenure without holding the required general body meeting, raising serious questions about compliance with municipal laws. As per the rules, at least four general body meetings must be conducted annually to approve quarterly accounts and deliberate on development works and civic issues.
It is noteworthy that a general body meeting was scheduled on February 10, 2026, by Municipal President Jalpaben Patel. However, it was postponed due to her ill health. Despite assurances to reconvene the meeting, it was not held before the completion of the term.
Local sources suggest that expenditures may have been carried out without formal approval of quarterly accounts, leading to concerns regarding transparency and accountability. The general body meeting serves as a crucial platform for decision-making related to civic amenities, budgets, and development projects.
The issue has triggered discussions in political and social circles within the town. Citizens believe that ignoring such statutory provisions, if left unchecked by authorities, could set a dangerous precedent for governance.
Residents and local leaders are now demanding a high-level inquiry into the matter. They have urged authorities to take appropriate legal action if any violations of municipal regulations are found.
